Private Equity Activities at Record Level | PWC Private Equity Trend Report 2022

2021, the European economy has gradually recovered from COVID-19 and the consequences of the pandemic. Despite some ongoing uncertainties, deal activity with private equity participation reached a new record level: a total of more than 3,000 transactions with a deal value totaling EUR 217 billion took place in 2021. This represents a 13% increase in deal volume over 2020 and 55% increase in deal value.

These are some of the key findings of PwC’s latest Private Equity Trend Report 2022.

As the CORONA crisis support measures come to an end, the PE industry is seen to continue to increase and grow in 2022.

Broken down to the D-A-CH region, it shows that approx. 22% of the deals take place here. Thus, this region is dominantly represented and very important. In absolute terms, this means almost 700 deals in 2021, which is considerable.

The top 3 private equity deals were:

The buyout of Dutch blinds manufacturer Hunter Douglas by 3G Capital, based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was the deal with the largest transaction value (€6.3 billion) in 2021.

In second place came the buyout of Dutch telecommunications provider T-Mobile Netherlands by Apax Funds (London) and Warburg Pincus (New York, USA) with EUR 5.1 billion.

Third place went to the secondary buyout of the French group Cerba HealthCare by the Stockholm-based investment group EQT Partners AB (4.5 billion euros).
